Dear Chicagoans Not Yet Deeply Involved in the Fight for our Public Education: CPS Has Asked The Council and Me to Pass an Entire Budget for Our School in less than 72 Hours. P.S. They’re professional managers. I am a volunteer public servant.

I do not know what more I can add.

Chicago Public Schools is continuing its deliberate and designed divestment from our schools in favor of advocating for school options that promote less equitable opportunities.

Case in point:

I serve on a Local School Council. It is of Walt Disney Magnet Elementary.

Every year we edit our budget within our legal parameters with the district and we approve it to our needs.

It is a lengthy and purposeful process.

As it should be.

In its same dramatic yet unsurprising flourish, the Chicago Board of Education is pushing to be as least transparent, as least engaging, and as least democratic as possible.

CPS and The Mayor are not on the same sides as advocates for better local schools.
