Hi Neighbors! Your feedback? Security cameras on Disney’s building.

Hi Neighbors!

It continues to be a pleasure to serve our community at the nearby school, Disney Magnet.

Amazing things continue to happen at Disney, and the teachers and staff continue to go beyond. I often sing the accolades of our school, so let me get to the 2 community matters I wanted to report.

1.

Parking. I continue to lobby for neighborhood parking options on our campus. There is one primary difficulty here. Our former vendor lost their contract and the new contract is being explored at a district wide level.

It is beneficial for everyone in our area to have neighborhood parking at Disney— so I will keep us updated if I am able to find a way that our principal can engage in that conversation without the bureaucracy of the board downtown. …

On that note:

Our Principal issued a strong rebuke at our last public meeting.

“Do not double park while dropping off your students. Double parking during drop off and pick up damages our relations with our Neighbors.”

I was pleased with this message. Please share if you have any ideas.

2.

Disney is considering security cameras for in and out of the building.

Cameras installed on the outside of our building could have an impact on our neighborhood.

CAPS often says cameras can help gather evidence after possible crimes that occur nearby, while there is a library of studies that show cameras have held tremendous bias in the past while gathering said evidence.

I welcome community input on this as our council begins to take this matter up.

As always, I continue to appreciate your support.

Feel free to reach me with anything. Thank you all so much!

Looking forward,

Daniel Kleinman, Disney Magnet Community Representative
