News From The Public Education Legislative Front—

Just in time to prepare for the second week of Veto Session, when the Illinois State Chambers will return to Springfield for the last time of 2022, Senator Martwick has introduced a corresponding bill to HB 5815.

The new bill, SB 4247, follows Senator Martwick’s previous senate victories that secured Chicago its first Elected School Board.

Just like HB 5815, the bill ensures the new Board of Education members will be able to hire staff.

This is the next needed step for Chicago’s participation in our new school board.

The bills are being led by Representative La Shawn Ford and Senator Robert Martwick, respectively.

The effort looks forward.
