Illinois Legislators: Upcoming Chicago School Board Isn’t Paid. Their Staff Should Be. Sponsor This Bill!!

Illinois Law Makers: I applaud your legislative efforts that made the Elected School Board Possible. But we cannot stop here.

Every compromise creates a framework for further progress.

So for Veto Session or immediately in 2023, the consideration of the following only makes sense:

Elected board members are to not be paid positions. This might be, However, given the amount of work and responsibility surely to be demanded, this justifies the need for a paid staff member per board member, in addition to the hired board secretary.

I call upon an Illinois Representative or Senator to chiefly sponsor a bill in Springfield to create “Constituent Coordinator” staff positions for Chicago Public School Board Members, one for each of the school board members, and to appropriate the amount to adequately hire that staff.

Let’s join together for such common sense solutions and to work to pursue even more.

Let’s not stop here.

Let’s keep this going.

I am looking forward.
