I believe in rewarding student achievement much more than demoralizing frustrating efforts.
9 years ago, I was amazed by Senn High School students, led by their student LSC representative, petitioned the council for a start up fund to get a school store started to sell basic items and school Swag.
Genius. Learn math. Learn responsibility. Have fun. Grow school spirit.
I was honored to make that motion and see to it that it passed.
It was on my mind that night, however, knowing that very few schools in the city would have the same opportunity to do so.
To me, spreading opportunities like this to more schools should be a priority.
Experiential learning pays more dividends than a school store’s profit.
