Arne Duncan, former Education Secretary under President Barack Obama and former CEO of CPS announced that he will not be a candidate for Chicago’s mayor in the 2023 election.
I think this is a good thing.
Some facts you can easily find:
Duncan was appointed CEO of CPS by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2001.
Under his tenure, he executed Chicago’s infamous effort, “Renaissance 2010.”
This effort was led by for-profit education companies, and was announced in June 2004 by Chicago Public Schools.
Renaissance 2010 called for 100 new schools by 2010.
Under Renaissance 2010, the Chicago Public Schools closed over 80 public schools, and sought to create 100 charter schools by 2010.
I wouldn’t be looking forward to Renaissance 2030.
It is time for failed policies of past leadership to gracefully exit stage left.
Applause to Mr. Duncan for leading the way.
