I am grateful to have reaffirmed the trust that I have earned in my community by winning re-election to the Walt Disney Magnet Local School Council in Buena Park, Uptown Chicago.
Earning public trust comes through exercising public responsibility.
This is true in every aspect of life.
I always do my best, and serving in this public space has taught me that my best is always made better when joining with the best of those around me.
It takes practice to best build open communication channels. It takes dedication to learn how to promote compromise. It is a reward when a team accomplishes a shared goal. Leadership is a practice. Just like playing the violin. Just like trying out for a play. Just like joining the soccer team.
Learning to work in public is learning to work in the most transparent and accountable way.
I had already learned that the best projects were the result of the individuals enabled to do their best work on a team. Just like on a soccer team, where each player must learn their part on the team and learn their skillsets that they can contribute, and just like a violinist learning their part in a concerto and practicing their part for the concert, so too can learning to play your part on a legislative team while earning a deeper understanding of your own social skills practice for the “social concerts” of collaborative efforts.
It is fun and rewarding.
Now, I am dully elected to my third term.
Working together, not against each other, is a hobby of mine.
I have been so grateful to find so many colleagues that I have shared great experiences.
I reflect on so many private sector and non profit sector accomplishments.
The best work has been produced by the teams bonded in mutual respect.
Cultivating that mutual respect is worth practicing.
And I am always Looking forward to earning more experience!
