I’ve been asked to come, and I was asked to bring a camera and to invite a friend. Please, join me.
I will be at the corner of Wilson and Marine tonight, around sunset till later, standing with the residents of Uptown Tent City.
Let us recognize the reality of the situation.
Our neighbors have been evicted.
Their possessions have been put out from where they lived.
Their human right to housing will be violated. Don’t get confused: no-one I agreed with thought living in a tent city was a suitable permanent solution. But most agreed it was a better temporary option than any other available.
I still stand by that.
They now face the threat of further law-enforcement action.
Neighbors, I talk a lot about ‘positive loitering.’ I have never seen a more critical time for a neighborhood to come together to keep their eyes on a street, keeping our vulnerable safe.
