Dear Sir:
I am proud to see you in your position. Welcome home.
As you clearly know and demonstrate, the challenges of the present can lead to the greatest accomplishments of the future.
I do believe that life experience contributes most to this understanding. I have strong faith in yours.
As you recall, there are 2 things about Chicago. We love our city. And we like our answers the way we like our CTA bus arrivals: Now; especially when they’re demanded of the city.
You have accepted the responsibility of grave disarray.
Students of our district are plagued by violence and predatory misconduct, buildings that are dilapidating, and a pandemic that clouds every calendar.
But, if this is your new home, again, please reintroduce yourself a little louder–
To the parents, neighbors, and the school communities who have built these schools well before this current generation of students showed up to these classes– who have struggled to maintain them, and will continue to do so.
We are not loud voices. We are an integral part of CPS.
What built the schools are what built the city around them, and what will keep it built together.
We sit on Local School Councils.
We know our schools. We know our students. We know our neighborhoods.
In short:
We know your stakeholders.
Because we are your stakeholders.
Get to know us.
Get to know the answers.
Because we love our city. And we hate to wait.
I am looking forward to working together.
Daniel
