It was an honor to serve the Senn High School community in Edgewater and Andersonville as their representative on Senn’s Local School Council.
Together, we implemented such dramatic student-enhancing programs, including promoting students to study business practices through a small student-led campus store which generated small funds for student activities and spread school spirit.
It was remarkable.
That was the year 2012.
Now, elected in 2018 to the Walt Disney Magnet Elementary School located in Buena Park, I am privileged to serve a constituency across dozens of neighborhoods, and privileged to be a part of such amazing education and experiential programs that are preparing our students for High School.
Here are my notes from our most recent meeting at the Disney Local School Council.

Daniel’s Notes from April’s LSC meeting
Dear Constituents:
I wanted to provide an update as to what Disney’s Local School Council discussed and accomplished at last night’s meeting. We quickly entered what we knew would be an extended session to conduct our discussion over our new budget prepared for our upcoming school years.
I was incredibly pleased to see the priority placed on not loosing any teacher or staff positions while also providing the support tools those teachers need to continue to excel in their positions. I am proud to say that my vote helped approve this budget.
I want to take a moment, now that I am at the anniversary of my election to Disney’s Local School Council, to note the continuing efforts of our Principal, Dr. Hagstrom.
I bring up one effort in particular, among the many that could be noted; an effort that can be taken for granted, but its lack of obviousness just shows its importance. The topic is the construction of a positive learning atmosphere.
As an example, as soon as you walk into the Disney campus, you are welcomed by an environment that has obviously been designed for creative and constructive learning from the ground up. I remember serving at Nicholas Senn High School and witnessing the dramatic effect that freshly painted lockers had on the student atmosphere.
In learning environments, the angels seem to be in the details.
Dr. Hagstrom continues to prioritize our learning spaces, such as working with teachers to ensure the arranging of classrooms is best for student engagement, but her appreciation of those lesser obvious but even more seen details highlights a constructive approach and effect that I would say could be a model.
Until next time,
Daniel
